Laurier’s full-time, 2-year Bachelor of Education (BEd) program is designed to prepare you for teaching primary and junior levels (Grades K-6), or junior and intermediate levels (Grades 4-10). Our program has strong links with 4 local school boards, and you’ll spend at least 2 days each week in a Professional Development School (PDS) placement throughout the 2 years, in addition to your 5 block practicum placements. You’ll regularly link the theory you’ll learn in your university classes to the teaching experiences of your placements. Laurier’s Faculty of Education fosters excellence in teacher education and scholarship through inquiry, reflection and collaborative sustained partnerships in learning.

U of T offers two-year programs leading to a Master of Education (MEd), Master of Teaching (MT), or Master of Arts in Child Study and Education (MA CSE) degree. An undergraduate degree is required. Preference is given to those who have attained a high academic average in a four-year degree program and to those with relevant experience.

Consecutive Education (Primary/Junior)

This 16-month program prepares you to be an elementary school teacher (Junior Kindergarten to Grade 6) with strengths in science, mathematics, literacy and technology.

Admission is based on an undergraduate degree from a recognized university, with a minimum required average of 70% ("B-" or 2.7 GPA) in best 10 full-year or best 20 half-year courses completed. Preference given to 4-year honours degrees.

Because Primary/Junior teachers deal with a wide range of subject areas, it is desirable that you have a broad academic background. In assessing the academic breadth of Primary/Junior applicants, the Faculty of Education gives preference to candidates who have 1 or more 3 credit hour (half-year) undergraduate or graduate courses in these subject groupings:

This 16-month program prepares you to teach Grades 7 to 12 with expertise in 2 of the following teachable subject areas:

Applicants must have completed a minimum of 5 full-year courses, or 10 half-year courses with a 70% average in a first teaching subject and 3 full-year courses, or 6 half-year courses with a 70% average in a second teaching subject.

The Engineering Technology (BEng Tech) program prepares grads for the job market. It was developed for those who hold one of the following:
a) a three-year technology diploma from a Canadian college (or an equivalent overseas Institution)
b) an engineering degree from an accredited Canadian university (or an equivalent overseas institution)
c) a four-year university degree in a scientific or technical subject from a Canadian University (or an equivalent overseas institution).
